SVGdance

Dance is the language of the heart, which speaks in dialects and is visible through movement. SVG Dance explores the internal experiences of the heart and the passions, challenges, celebrations and memories and it holds.

START SIMPLE: THREE DAYS OF PERFORMANCE PRACTICE DECEMBER 20-22, 2013 JOE GOODE ANNEX

SVG Dance will be attending Joe Goode's Performance Group winter workshop in December.  We are really excited to learn from this incredible master of choreography.  Visit Joe Goode's website at http://joegoode.org

This weekend intensive with Joe Goode and company members is designed to nourish the creative impulse and to reconsider the body as an inspired source.  Art making should be a place of respite, a place we go to understand ourselves better, to contemplate our place in the world. This requires a gentle approach, towards the material, but also toward ourselves.  Sometimes we just need to remind ourselves of how to be present in the body without expectations of greatness and without such a critical eye. This is a workshop for people who want to discover the pleasure and power of embodied action and how to bring the “felt experience” into their art making. There is no dance or performance background required. Just bring your curiosity.

THE WEEKEND WILL INCLUDE:
  • Movement for Humans – A daily unpacking of the body, bringing it into a state of creative receptivity. No dance experience necessary.
  • Embodied Sound – Exploring the vocal anatomy and the physical/emotional resonances of sound.
  • Partnering – Play with touch and basic weight sharing to cultivate a responsive, relationship with another.  We will practice detailed tactile listening, and the emotional implications of touch.
  • Generating Felt Material - Excavating your life for creative material that is authentic and original. Learning to treat the performative moment as a catalyst for personal inquiry.
